Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps teachers to manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer - passing the quiz is an indication that your child has understood what has been read. Time is given in the library each week for students to take quizzes.

Prizes and Rewards for AR from the Library

Each 9 weeks students who have met their AR goal will receive a prize from the library. Commercial Bank also partners with our students and gives them money based on their AR points twice a year. This is paid out from August to December and will start over again from December until April. The more points a student has the more each point is worth. For example...10-19.9 points is 10 cent per point or if you have 50-74.9 points each point is worth 20 cent per point.

Goals per grade level each 9 weeks are....

1st grade - 5 points

2nd grade - 6 points

3rd grade - 7 points

4th grade - 8 points

5th grade -10 points

6th, 7th, and 8th grades - 12 points

***The library also gives 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in May to the 3 students with the most points for the entire school year. Students who have met their goal each 9 weeks or have points equivalent to that will also get to join our pizza party in May.
